Whither Goest
The U.S. Economy?

What will it be, the terminal glitch,
That brings the sad end of this game?
What 'midst the tangle of lies hits the switch,
And ends getting tagged with the blame?

The Washington wobbles?
The greed of The Street?
The sheer weight of cum'lative debt?
Or a mindless eruption
In a faraway place,
Revealing vast needs long unmet?

The future's specifics
We can not now know,
What brings on the next downturn deep;
But certain it is,
We will not escape,
What's long been sown soon we will reap.
