Not so long ago the CEO of a large company transferred $2.2 billion worth of stock to his wife just before being sacked by his board for various offenses, and refusing to answer questions on the matter when hauled before Congress. It was such a touching example of love Wall Street-style that I was inspired to write the following verse...
A Wall Street Love Poem
(In the style of Elizabeth Barrett Browning)
How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways:
I love thee for the wealth you've helped put out of reach
Of courts — for my nasty ethics breach;
I love thee for thy coolness, ne'er showing a twitch,
When before Congress I was taking the Fifth;
I love thee for accepting a suspect gift,
Most would just see as backhand grift;
I love thee for not complaining 'bout billions,
Though I lied when we met, said my net worth was trillions;
And I know once off the media's rack,
I shall love thee but more—if you give it all back.
