Wall Street Poet
Michael Silverstein's
Satirical Verse |
|
|

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective. That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post
"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today

Congress has just passed a law that allows companies to stop paying the medical benefits of retired workers when these workers qualify for Medicare. These costs (including drug costs) will now presumably be paid by government. Or retirees themselves. Or they wont be paid at all and retirees wont get their meds. Whats wrong with this picture?
Promises, Promises.....
We promised you a safety net
When you left the corprate fold,
A perk in lieu of higher pay
Twas the story we once told.
But now you have to understand
To keep up present profit,
That med care that we promised then
Stoo costlyso well stop it.
A busness has priorities,
It must dispense with fluff;
Retirees will learn to cope
And if notgosh, thats tough.
