Old Folks Power—The Poem
They're disrespected, patronized,
They're deemed too old to work;
When they say 'we've much to give,'
It's greeted with a smirk.
Old folks? They're just a background noise,
A safe crowd to ignore;
Except look closer, and you'll find,
They're politics' hard core.
The Tea Party, their anger spawned,
They gave the right great heft;
Rep. Ryans' nostrums they disliked,
Awakened the hard left.
Smart product sellers at long last
Have come to realize,
It ain't young folks who have loose cash,
It's old gals and old guys.
Old power in the shopping cart,
Old power at the polls;
In many realms one finds old folks
Still play the leading roles.
