Youre Never Too Old
To Go Back To Work
The market once had no need for the old,
It made them retire at sixty-five.
"You have to make room for the young," they were told,
"You must step aside so that youth can thrive."
So the elderly took their pensions and stock,
Leaving behind the work life theyd led,
They bid a farewell to the old punch-in clock,
And retirement living adopted instead.
But now the same marketplace sings a new song:
"Were giving you old folks another crack;
Our projections on pension and health costs were wrong;
To make up the difference, youll have to come back."
Thanks to shortfalls, and cutbacks, and rip-offs galore,
Countless old folks are earning their living anew.
"Sixty-five step-aside" theyre told now to ignore,
"You can happily labor til eighty-two."
