A Dyspeptic's Guide To Contemporary American Politics (In Verse)

Fifteen Feet Beneath Manhattan by Michael Silverstein

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective. That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today
More Of What The Critics Are Saying
About Silverstein's Verse

President Eisenhower in 1961 spoke of a Military-Industrial Complex that had great influence on government policies. Such influence palls, however, compared to the intrusive influence on personal privacy exercised by the present day Marketing-Security Complex.

The Marketing
Security Complex Poem

They know:
What you think, what you buy,
what you eat, where you go.
They know.

If you're broke, if you toke,
who'll get rich, when you croak,
no joke.
They know.

Been in jail, drink too much, cheat on taxes?
In the sack, your act don't, spawn climaxes?
They know,
Oh yes.
They know.

More than friends, more than lovers,
more than drinking pals or kin,
they have ways to find out
where you are and where you've been.

Makes you angry, you complain.
"For your protection," they'll explain;
"We will make you better shoppers.
We're the country's new crime stoppers."

They know.
You know.
How they peer.
And they don't care.
