In the year just past, the Dow rose 25 percent, the S&P 500 26 percent, the Nasdaq a whopping 50 percent. Investors are praying for another barnburner in 2004.

An Investor’s Prayer

The Nasdaq’s touched 2,000,
The Dow has past 10K,
I had my first good year in four,
Oh joy! Caloo! Calay!

If this is just a bubble,
Keep this bubble fully gassed;
I need a rising market
To make up for bad years past.

Please give me twelve more big months,
Before the good times fade,
To get one kid through college,
And the other’s braces paid;

To patch up some bad credit,
And fix that basement leak,
To take a long vacation
Otherwise I’m gonna freak.

It need not be a great one,
Not a boomer like ‘03;
Just please make it lots better
Than those awful prior three.
