A Dyspeptic's Guide To Contemporary American Politics (In Verse)

Fifteen Feet Beneath Manhattan by Michael Silverstein

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective.That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today

About Silverstein's Verse

The first verse of a new investing year should always be upbeat—even if a lot of the news about the economy these days is anything but. With that thought in mind....

Good Times A’Coming

‘We’re heading for trouble,’ my newspapers said,
‘The economy’s stuck in the mud;
You’d best have your money tucked under the bed
‘Cause it’s all coming down with a thud.’

Oh sure, I can see why they wrote it like that,
I follow quite closely the market;
But my thinking ‘bout money as New Year bows in,
Is I’d rather invest it than park it.

I know the EU and Japan are a mess,
And Iraq is all set to explode;
I know unemployment’s a cause for concern,
So why should I boost my stock load?

A wise old Wall Streeter confided in me
When I was first paying my dues:
"If you buy all your stocks when the market’s near top,
You’re really quite certain to lose.

"The fishing is best when the bottom you trawl,
Bargains are spawned under pressure;
When others pack gear and flee back to the shore,
That’s when you find deep sunken treasure."

Let shaky investors beat a retreat
‘Cause they fear bigger troubles are brewing;
I’ll put my own faith in the market’s elite,
And pray they know what they are doing.
