Wall Street Poet
Michael Silverstein's
Satirical Verse |
|
|

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective.That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post
"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today

Tanka isnt just a brand name for toys. Its a Japanese poetry form. While better known haiku verse consists of 3 lines with 5, 7 and 5 syllables respectively, tanka has 5 lines and a 5-7, 5-7-7 syllable structurethe last line a kind of summation. Heres some American style financial tanka.
Financial Tanka
In the summertime
Folks want restful vacations;
Who needs to get miffed
By big investment worries?
Better if markets just drift.
You go out shopping
Looking for a few items;
But those ads in-store,
On walls, beamed from loud speakers,
Get you to buy a lot more.
Youre a Fed Chairman
Pondering your legacy;
Your hope is to split
With a room full of honors
Before the next big market hit.
