A Dyspeptic's Guide To Contemporary American Politics (In Verse)

Fifteen Feet Beneath Manhattan by Michael Silverstein

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective. That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today

Driven To The Brink
Of Public Transportation

I long took for granted the purr of the metal
The feel of the power when foot hits the peddle
When it came to car driving there ne'er seemed a puzzle
No worry 'bout meeting the cost of the guzzle.

Two dollars a gallon, I thought kind of steep
But I grimaced and paid it with nary a peep
At two bucks I figured this charge was a goring
Though one I could shrug off and keep on ignoring.

When three dollar pricing made feeding my car
Exceed driving overhead past cost by far
I started to feel both for business and pleasure
My four wheel road home was less of a treasure.

As it creeps toward four dollars I've now started thinking
That fill ups are why my lifestyle keeps on shrinking
Could it be? Might I soon face that awful resort
A subway, a bus, other public transport?
