Jimmy Carter over-bureaucratized national solar policy. Reagan pretty much abandoned solar. Bush One ran from it so as not offend the oil patch. Clinton gave it minimal attention. Bush Two leaned even more toward an oil forever policy. More recently, Obama gave alternative energy development (including solar) a back seat to a going nowhere cap and trade effort. And the upshot?
China Eats Our Solar Lunch
There was a time, we were out front,
In tapping nature's richest source
Of energy to run our world,
In solar's realm we were the boss.
But over time we sputtered, shrugged,
Our vision here grew blurry, weak,
Investment too long waned and lagged,
Left once great solar prospects bleak.
Now others hold a solar lead,
They race ahead, this cunning bunch,
And we've become just also rans,
As China eats our solar lunch.
