A Dyspeptic's Guide To Contemporary American Politics (In Verse)

Fifteen Feet Beneath Manhattan by Michael Silverstein

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective.That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today

About Silverstein's Verse

Working more for less these days? Sensing a growing tilt in the level playing field? This little ditty, “The Bleary-Eyed,” is based on Vachel Lindsay’s even more biting economic commentary, “The Leaden-Eyed.”

The Bleary Eyed

To keep young folks from burning out too quick,
We’ll bind them to their tasks with little lies;
The Market cannot spare their bodies or their minds,
On frazzled lives and bleary eyes it thrives.

We’ll talk of growth, but not the filth it spews;
We’ll talk of wealth, but not how much it’s skewed;
We’ll talk of clout, and claim it’s well diffused;
We’ll talk fair game, and titter while they’re screwed.
