A Dyspeptic's Guide To Contemporary American Politics (In Verse)

Fifteen Feet Beneath Manhattan by Michael Silverstein

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective.That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today
More Of What The Critics Are Saying
About Silverstein's Verse

Junk bonds and treasury bonds are much in the news these days. It thus seems like a good time for a bond trader fight song.

The Battle Hymn Of
The Bond Trader

Oh mine eyes have seen two companies
That once sold lots of cars;
We would buy up all their paper
They were big name superstars;
As this paper’s all gone junk grade
Ford and GM’s pain is ours;
The bond market marches on.

Biz, ness needs its easy credit,
Biz, ness needs its easy credit,
Play, things wrong and you don’t get it,
S&P can cost you dear.

Our government once issued
A long bond, the 30-year;
It was perfect for some buyers
‘Bout default they had no fear;
Now the Fed, to finance deficits,
Might make it reappear;
The bond market marches on.

T, bills are a short term mix-er,
But, you need a better fix-er,
Long, bonds are the best elix-ir
When the debt keeps piling on.

Dick Nixon learned the lesson
With bond traders you don’t toy;
Poor Bill Clinton learned the hard way
And it stymied the dear boy;
Soon George Bush will get the message
And it won’t bring him no joy;
The bond market marches on.

Power, power rests with lenders,
Power, power rests with lenders,
They, don’t fancy overspenders,
Others govern, lenders rule.
