Just Starting Out
by Anthony R. Merulla,
Weehawken, NJ

Just starting out. Starting out blind
With dreams of victory etched in my mind.

I will beat the market, I'll rise above all
I'll be unlike all others, I won't take the fall.

Yet even the titans sometimes fell flat,
Even the titans fell to the mat.
But it's how they got up and pushed through more,
That is what filters the rich from the poor.

So where in this wonderful quest is my part?
How will I play? With my head or my heart?

A contrarian trader will look through these glasses,
Never to follow the flows of the masses.
For this is how the legends are made,
With a plan and a focus that cannot be swayed.

I must go to it now, I must not wait
I must trust in myself, I will not vacillate.
Time is precious and the hours are few,
I must do what I know, not just know what to do

Yes, these are the pictures that will go in my frame,
Just starting out in this glorious game.

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective. That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today
