The Downward Drift
(a bad day on the stock market)
by Jeff Probst
Scuttling along its day’s bottom
The Dow tracks lower
The positive green a memory
The red a mocking glower
At the foot of the Peak of Plus once glimpsed
the minus percentages bloat
the cold graph founders
forsaking levels and hope
Daily, it is out of our hands
as we sit, dumb at our screens
at the mercy of forces beyond our ken
as slumping benchmarks are breached
Too late to get out, painful to remain
But knowing we are lucky, to be able to be in.
