Poem of the Week

The Kabul Bank, created and partially funded by the U.S., proved so riddled with corruption that even Hamid Karzai was embarrassed by its principals' shenanigans. And Hamid Karzai, friends, is not a man easily embarrassed by corruption.

A Kabul Bank Investor Speaks

The Kabul Bank, I gave it try,
After all it was run by Mahmoud Karzai
Whose brother, Hamid, the head of this clan
Was also the Big Man of Afghanistan.

Alas the bank's principals proved tres corrupt,
On the bank's fragile assets they greedily supped;
Each self-serving deal, they gave it a try,
With bank assets bought classy digs in Dubai.

Will I end losing big time on this quirky bet?
Do a weepy time fret on returns I won't get?
No, I'll end up made whole, bailed out from this jam,
By the world's sham redeemer, our own Uncle Sam.

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective.That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today
